On Sunday, February 11, at 14:00 at the Museum of Historical Treasures of Ukraine, an author's excursion Read Herodotus, Greeks and Scythians on the lands of the Northern Black Sea Coast will be held.
The father of Herodotus (485 - 431-425 BC) left an extraordinary heritage - 9 books, in which they depicted vivid pictures of the existence of many tribes of antiquity. If you open the book IV - "Melpomena": this is a story about Scythia and its inhabitants - the victorious Scythians who overcame the Persian king Darius. Herodotus, apparently, visited the Northern Black Sea Coast. And, as is known from the school textbook, on the Black Sea coast, immigrants from Hellas and Malaya founded a number of colonies, including Olbia. "Olvia" in translation means "happy" (now the village of Parutine Odesa region). Scientists suggest that it was in Olbia that Herodotus lived for some time. He listened to the stories of both the Greeks and the Scythians, who knew what were their relations, their customs, beliefs, legends ... It is interesting that archaeological monuments often contain plots that illustrate the stories from Melpomene. And what are the works?
All this will be mentioned in the author's excursion by Lyubov Klochko, a candidate of historical sciences, head of the research department "History of Jewelry in Ukraine".
